Core Conditioning

Most people think core conditioning and they think 6 pack abs. I have a 6 pack so what do I need to worry about? WRONG. There is more to your core than just your rectus abdomonis. You have your obliques, lower back muscles, hamstring, quads, hip flexors, and many other small muscles. These muscles are just as important as your abs.

People as a whole need to realize this. Today younger and younger people complain about low back pain. Even mild low back pain for that matter. Most of these pains can be alleviated by regaining an even balance between the core muscles. Low back pain is usually associated with tight quads, hip flexors and low back along with weak abs, and hamstrings. Don't forget to work all areas of your core.

While the six pack is great don't forget the rest of the cores. There are many different exercises you can do to work your upper and lower abs. Obliques can be accomplished by doing simple side bends. Back extensions, hamstring curls, and lunges are great for the rest of the core. With a little internet research you can find just about any core exercises you want for any of the core body parts.

  1. I thought this was a good topic for a blog because I always see people in the gym doing ridiculous amounts of abs exercises but nothing else. Like Alan said in his blog it is important to not only work your abs but all the muscles around your core. Many people who just work out their abs and not there lower backs often times experience from back pain because doing to many abs exercises puts a strain on your lower back. So by training and strengthening your lower back it can help you benefit better from your abs exercises.

  2. Awesome topic! i agree with Eric's comment as well. I work my abs but you have to remember that your abs aren't the only part to your core. Core stability training will help your abs along with your core. Not to mention... if you dont do your cardio and strength training then no one will see all your beautiful core because of the fat on top of it!!

  4. good topic. A lot of younger kids are going to the gym looking for that beach body and aren't working all their muscle groups witch can cause injuries. Abs are something everyone wants, but you got to remember balancing out your body is what gets you your results without injuries.
